Frequently Asked Questions

Material Features & Selection

What Are the Main Decorative Surface Materials Supplied by Bigbahn?

They mainly includemelamine paper,PP film,PVC film,PET film,HPL/CPL fire-resistant sheets, andacrylic.

How to Choose the Right Decorative Surface for Your Needs?

  • For ultimate environmental friendliness and a soft-touch finish, choose PP.
  • For high gloss and excellent processing stability, choose PET.
  • For superior abrasion resistance and fire protection, choose HPL.
  • For high cost-effectiveness, choose PVC.

What Are the Main Differences Between PVC Film and PP/PET Film?

PVC is a vacuum-forming film that offers high cost-effectiveness, excellent moisture resistance, flame retardancy, and thermal insulation properties.

However, it is less environmentally friendly in terms of degradation compared to PP and PET.

What Is Fire-Resistant Laminate (HPL)?

HPL, whose technical name is high-pressure laminate made of thermosetting resin-impregnated paper, features outstanding fire resistance, high-temperature resistance, scratch resistance, and compression strength.

Design options include wood grain, stone look, and other decorative finishes.

Technical Specs & Performance

What Is the Typical Thickness of Bigbahn Decorative Films?

Thickness varies significantly by material:

  • Melamine paper adds negligible thickness.
  • PVC is typically available at 16丝 (160 microns).
  • PP is around 15–16丝 (150–160 microns), with soft‑touch films being slightly thicker.
  • PET is approximately 35丝 (350 microns).
  • Fire‑resistant laminates (HPL/CPL) range between 45 and 80丝 (450–800 microns).

What Are the Advantages of Bigbahn PET Decorative Film?

Bigbahn PET decorative film features outstanding mechanical strength and rigidity, brilliant colors with a pronounced three-dimensional effect, and excellent processing stability — no brittleness or cracking during fabrication or edge banding.

Does the Decorative Surface Affect the Screw-Holding Capacity of the Board?

No, it does not.

Screw retention is primarily influenced by the density of the base material (with Yang’an poplar offering the highest density, followed by lightweight board, and then Malacca).

The decorative surface is mainly intended for surface protection and decorative purposes.

What Environmental Rating Can Decorative Films Achieve?

Our PP and PET films are inherently free from formaldehyde, heavy metals, and VOCs, and they comply with green product evaluation requirements.

When laminated onto panels, the finished boards can achieve the ENF grade, which means no formaldehyde is added during manufacturing.

What Adhesive Is Used During the Lamination Process?

We use PUR (Polyurethane Reactive) hot melt adhesive.

This adhesive reacts with moisture in the air to create an irreversible cross-linked structure.

It delivers excellent performance under both low and high temperatures and provides extremely strong bonding to the substrate.

What Is “Corona” Treatment in Decorative Surfaces?

Corona treatment involves subjecting the surface of a decorative film to a high-frequency electrical discharge.

This process increases the surface tension of the film, which significantly improves its ability to bond with adhesives or substrates, resulting in a stronger and more reliable lamination.

Manufacturing & QC

How to Ensure Surface Flatness After Lamination?

At Bigbahn, we follow a strict “ Eight-Step Dedusting” process.

This includes the use of high-pressure air knives and high-performance dust extraction units to thoroughly clean the substrate before lamination.

By eliminating all surface dust, we prevent the formation of particles, bumps, or other surface defects, ensuring a perfectly flat finish.

What Processes Are Included in Film Production?

The main production stages include:

  1. Design confirmation – finalizing the visual pattern
  2. Color matching – adjusting colors to meet specifications
  3. Sample proofing – producing and approving pre-production samples
  4. Printing – applying the design onto the film
  5. Transfer – moving the printed film to the next stage
  6. Embossing / Back coating – adding texture (embossing) or adhesive/primer layer (back coating)
  7. Slitting – cutting the film into specified widths

How Is Color Accuracy Ensured for Decorative Surfaces?

Before mass production, 4–5 rounds of color matching and sample proofing are conducted. Production proceeds only after the sample matches the customer‘s reference pattern without discrepancy.
